Deutschland

"Ich bin ein Berliner."  John Kennedy said that when he visited Berlin long time ago in front of the whole crowd and the media.

I bet he didn't mean it to be a joke.   But unfortunately, it was a big joke.

He wanted to say 'I am a Berliner.'   But then it turned out to be 'I am a doughnut.' because he added an article in front of the word 'Berliner' and in German 'Berliner' also means 'doughnut'.

And in fact, the doughnut is huge!

P.S. I was told by my German friend that 'Berliner' can also mean a person from Berlin.   But somehow, the above story is still interpreted as a joke told by some local tour guides and it was even mentioned in a movie.
